It would be 6:30 in the morning. John had already left home, had his two cups of black coffee, drive from his home into the heart of Compton, California. After exchanging brief pleasantries with his employees he'd walk up to his messy office. Sit down at a desk covered in notes, yesterday's lunch wrapper, and an order he was working on getting equipment ready for anyone of his hundreds of customers. With rolodex in hand, John would start his daily calling. "John with the Buckets, John with the Wheels, where do you want me to deliver this bucket too?" The poor dispatcher on the other end of the phone would always get so confused. "Uh, John we didn't order a bucket?" My father would respond "Well, why not? Do you need one? I've got a lot of them." This wasn't just a rare occasion, this was the man's MO. I still here customers to this day recant conversations that sound almost identical to this one. John was beloved by his family, his friends, his employees, and his customers.
John was passionate about three things; His kids, his wife Peggy, and his business. John kept things as simple as he could. Sometimes to a fault. But his love for his family was never wavering and only rivaled by his love for his business. My father by no means was perfect. And although he'd tell you different, he was a very humble man who loved to help. John has a total of 5 kids. A total of 12 grandchildren , and as of this writing two great grandchildren. When I think of my father I often think of the legacy he has left behind. Obviously there are many branches under John's family tree. John's life came to an end August 21st 2017, one day after his 76th birthday. My father's health declined after the passing of my Mom. And although he battled heart problems, he made sure to share love and joy where every he could. He loved his family and his family loved him back entirely. John's influence is still felt today at Buckets4Rent. We will do whatever we can to help our customers. If you have a memory of John and would like to leave it here, please do. I would enjoy reading them.
